Week 4 Learning Journal Post

Part 1: Educational Goals

A goal I am working to achieve within this or next term is to finish an O'Rilley online course on the basics and fundamentals of Python programming. I will then be working on a similar course that pertains to Java programming. Simultaneously to these courses, I have a goal of creating an online study hour with those within our cohort. Two long-term goals I have are to obtain my bachelor's degree in computer science and to graduate with honors. After obtaining my bachelor's degree, I plan to then go for my master's so I can teach at a college level if I choose later on in my career.

Part 2: Career Goals

A goal I have for my career is to obtain at least two professional certifications before I graduate my bachelor's degree program, CompTIA Security+ and Cisco Certified Network Associate. Additionally, I have a goal of securing a cybersecurity internship with a local company before I graduate. Once I have gained enough experience and obtained my degree, I have a goal of becoming a penetration tester. Using that position, it is my goal to climb the ladder up to a cyber-crime analyst.

Part 3: Guessing My ETS

After viewing all the provided materials related to the ETS page, I am a bit worried about taking the test in 18 months. I generally struggle with tests, but more so with multiple choice than I do write in tests. It's impossible for me to find comfort in one choice if I haven't confidently eliminated all the wrong answers. As long as I study hard, take a lot of notes, and complete a large amount of review hours, I think I am capable of achieving 85 percentile or above.

Part 4: What I've Learned This Week

This week, I learned a lot about neurotechnology and brain implants as I prepared my ethical argument essay outline. Additionally, I learned more about how AI may play a role in my future employment and how it may be a bit more beneficial to be AI-independent than AI-literate, as literacy for AI may lead to reliance on it. Lastly, I learned a little more about how I should interact with my team, as we took time to discuss our conflict styles and how well we are at reading each other's emotions. To ensure we work well together, we agreed to be upfront with each other and promised to work towards common ground should our dynamic ever become unproductive.

  1. I think your goal to finish not only the python course, but also the java course, is great. Both languages are key to computer science and those basics are key to a sturdy foundation. Graduating with honors is a good goal, as you are going above and beyond and really retaining the information to use in the future by graduating with honors.
