Week 3 Learning Journal Post
Part 1: Time Management and Study Strategy
There was a short period of time when I first started college that I would go to the library to study, but that caused me social anxiety and I began focusing more on those around me than my work, so I just study at home. To improve my notetaking, I am going to try using the split page method and using colors. Additionally, I stated last week that I spent more time that I had allotted for my essay draft, so something new I plan to try is not to be a perfectionist and prioritize better.Part 2: Learnings from This Week
In addition to the other parts of this post, we gathered together with our teams to look into the various courses that are offered within the computer science (CS) curriculum and how they may serve an importance to us as CS majors. Additionally, we reviewed our Individual Learning Plans which indicate what courses we are expected to take and when we will take them. We also took some time to learn about how well we can read others' emotions and how we may assist those with different learning styles than our own. Lastly, we learned about ethical frameworks and how they are used to compare differing sides of an ethical argument.
Part 3: What a Computer Science Major Needs to Know
Computer Science (CS) majors will benefit from creating a portfolio in addition to a resume because the portfolio will show employers a candidate's skill rather than relying on their word. Additionally, CS majors should invest time learning programming languages they're not familiar with and establishing a greater foundation of fundamental CS concepts, like data structures, and fields, like graphics and simulation. This is something I had originally planned on working on during this term to prepare for later programming courses, but I still have to get used to my new school schedule.
Part 4: CSUMB CS Online Code of Integrity
Integrity is important for me and other students in the program for various reasons. For one, if we don't keep our integrity, we risk losing our credibility. Additionally, we lose the opportunity to learn what we need to when we cheat, which can affect our own work, our teamwork, and our work throughout our careers. Overall, maintaining our integrity helps ensure fairness and avoiding consequences.
